What Does Dedicated Hosting Signify?

When we talk about hosting servers, there are 3 main categories - web hosting servers, VPS (virtual private web servers) and dedicated hosting. Shared servers accommodate a lot of clients and thus the resources per user account are restricted, VPS hosting offer more configuration freedom, but also affect other VPS servers on the hardware node if utilized unwisely, and dedicated hosting servers offer you the autonomy to perform everything you desire without intervening with anyone else.

Why would you need a dedicated hosting servers?

Dedicated hosting servers are traditionally much more expensive than shared web hosting servers or Virtual Private Servers. Why would anyone, then, want to use them? The reply is rather simple. If your corporation has a heavy resource-swallowing website, or just has very special web server configuration requirements, the most intelligent option would be a dedicated hosting servers. For someone who is willing to invest in security and stability, the greater price is not a concern. You get complete root access and can utilize 100 percent of the dedicated hosting web server's resources without anyone else using these resources and interfering with your web portals.

Hardware architectures

The majority of website hosting service providers, including us at Smart Purple Cloud, offer different hardware configurations you can choose from on the basis of your needs. The configurations offer different types of processors, a different number of cores, different RAM memory and disk drive sizes and different monthly traffic allowances. You can select a Control Panel, which is a useful software tool if you wish to use the dedicated hosting servers for website hosting purposes solely and choose not to use an SSH client for all the changes you will be making. We offer three types of Control Panel software - Hepsia, DirectAdmin and cPanel.

The hosting Control Panel of your choosing

If you are a self-confident Linux OS user (our servers are running on Linux or other Unix-based OSs), you could manage your dedicated hosting through SSH exclusively. That, however, could be inconvenient, especially if you wish to grant root privileges to someone else who has less technical expertise than yourself. That is why having web hosting CP software pre-activated is an excellent idea. The Hepsia Control Panel software that we offer does not offer full root access and is chiefly appropriate for somebody who maintains plenty of web portals that devour lots of system resources, but would like to manage the online portals, databases and mailbox aliases via an intuitive hosting CP. The DirectAdmin and cPanel web hosting CPs, on the other hand, grant full root access and offer three levels of access - root, reseller and user. If you intend to resell web hosting plans instead of using the dedicated hosting servers solely for yourself, you should choose one of these two.

Server monitoring and backup services

Last but not least, there is the matter of monitoring the dedicated hosting servers and of backing it up. In case of a predicament with your web hosting server, such as an unresponsive Apache or an outage, it is good to have some kind of monitoring platform enabled. Here at Smart Purple Cloud the system administrators monitor all dedicated hosting servers for ping timeouts, and, if you order a Managed Services upgrade, they monitor the individual services on the dedicated hosting servers too. Backups are also an extra option - the web hosting distributor offers you data backups on our own backup servers. You could pick a type of RAID that would permit you to keep the same data on 2 server hard disk drives as a precaution in case of a server hard disk drive failure, or in case someone whom you have ranted complete server root access erases something by mistake.
